The Gilberta variety is a two-row winter barley that belongs to feed, rather than malting, types of the crop.

In agronomic studies, the variety was examined in the context of resistance to powdery mildew. The presence of specific genetic resistance was revealed, to which certain populations of the pathogen adapted over time.
