Svanhals is a late-maturing two-row barley with a tall stem and a tendency to lodging. The variety has the ability to withstand hot and humid climatic conditions, and also exhibits tolerance to acidic soils.
In modern breeding, the variety is not used for mass cultivation, but retains its significance as a genetic resource. Genes of this variety have been actively used in international programs to improve the adaptive properties and disease resistance of new lines.
