The Florida 914 variety, also known as UF 914, possesses fruits with pigmented red flesh. Taste characteristics include pronounced sweetness and significantly less bitterness compared to traditional grapefruit varieties due to a reduced naringin content.
A key feature of the variety is the extremely low level of furanocoumarins, which makes it safe for consumption by people taking medications incompatible with regular grapefruit. In comparative trials, the variety demonstrates a higher sugar-to-acid ratio than the Star Ruby variety.
