The variety is classified as a hybrid of various pear species, including Pyrus pyrifolia, Pyrus ussuriensis, Pyrus bretschneideri, and Pyrus communis. Genetically, the variety is identified with the Early pear; there are also mutant forms, such as Zaosu Red Striped.
The fruits have a broadly ovate shape and a yellow-green primary skin color at maturity. The flesh is characterized by a tender, juicy, and crisp texture. The tree bears fruit on short spurs; the plant is adapted to cultivation in various climatic conditions, including arid zones.
