The plant reaches 1.2–1.8 meters in height and width. The main ornamental feature is the felted silver-white pubescence on the underside of the leaves, which becomes noticeable in the wind. Flowering occurs in mid-summer, from late June to July.
The variety forms lush, spherical inflorescences; the creamy-white flowers are suitable for cutting. The plant is demanding regarding soil moisture and is sensitive to drought. Cultivation in partial shade is recommended, as flowers may scorch in full sun.
In cultivation, the variety may exhibit a tendency for the crown to sprawl, which may require pruning to strengthen the stems. Compared to Hydrangea arborescens, this variety is considered more difficult to propagate and grow.
