The plant forms a loose head with elongated, upright leaves. Leaf color varies from dark purple and reddish-brown to a bronze shade, with green leaves with reddish edges also frequently encountered. The variety belongs to the semi-heading romaine type and is not an F1 hybrid.

The variety is described as fast-growing and easy to cultivate. The leaves have a crispy texture and a mild, sometimes slightly piquant taste. The produce is suitable for fresh consumption and braising; harvesting is possible both as whole heads and as individual leaves.
