The variety forms large heads weighing about 1096 g. The leaves have moderate blistering and a matte surface; the seeds are white. The plant possesses high vigor, but is prone to rapid bolting, which is why the variety is not recommended for cultivation during the summer period.
Helvius possesses complex resistance to lettuce downy mildew (Bremia lactucae), including a wide spectrum of European and Californian pathotypes. During cultivation, a tendency for head curling may occur. The variety is intended for sale in the fresh market.
