Scamander RZ variety belongs to the Crystal type, which is a variety of red leaf lettuce close in characteristics to iceberg. The plant forms smooth, deep red leaves that maintain color intensity under low light conditions and are characterized by a distinct crunch.
The variety is all-season and suitable for open field and protected cultivation, as well as hydroponics, allowing for high planting density. The leaves are resistant to bolting and tip burn, and have a long shelf life.
Possesses high resistance to lettuce powdery mildew (isolates Bl: 29–41EU), resistance to Nr:0, Pb, and intermediate resistance to lettuce mosaic virus (LMV:1). Produce is used for the fresh market, salad mixes, and foodservice.
