Variety description

10 August 2026

Afkos is not a breeding variety, but a local population adapted to the soil and climatic conditions of the island of Lemnos as a result of centuries of folk selection. The plant belongs to the winter crop type; seed sowing is carried out in November–December.

The primary purpose of the landrace is food production, in particular, the production of the pulse puree "fava". At the moment, work is underway to preserve this genetic resource and include it in the national variety register of Greece as a conservation variety.
