The variety is a selection "sport" with golden foliage. The plant height reaches 1.0–2.0 meters with a width of 1.0–1.8 meters. Young shoots have a reddish hue, leaves are red-purple upon opening, then turn a bright yellow or golden-green color.
Flowering lasts from July to September. Inflorescences consist of white or pale pink flowers surrounded by purple bracts, followed by the formation of decorative dark burgundy berries. The plant tolerates frosts down to -15...-18°C (USDA zones 6b–9b), is resistant to diseases, and is used as an ornamental.
