The variety Rote Horn was obtained through interspecific hybridization, presumably as a result of crossing Lilium longiflorum with representatives of Asiatic Hybrids, such as the variety Utagoe, or with Lilium elegans.

The plant possesses a characteristic tubular flower shape, due to an asymmetric genome composition. The variety is mentioned in literature as the first pink Easter lily-type lily.
