The plant is evergreen in the climate of the Netherlands, blooms and forms berries that attract birds. A morphological feature is the presence of longer hairs on the leaves and stems compared to typical species, the presence of which was intended for the adsorption of fine particulate matter.
Studies of its effectiveness in real urban conditions showed an extremely low rate of air purification from soot and fine dust. Concerns have been raised regarding the use of this plant due to the potential invasiveness of the species, which is prone to becoming feral.
