The variety belongs to the species Lysimachia fortunei Maxim. (Fortune's loosestrife), which in natural conditions grows in Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
The type species is a perennial herbaceous plant 30 to 90 cm in height, which blooms in July–August with white flowers gathered in erect raceme inflorescences. The plant is moisture-loving and is often used for planting near water bodies.
