The variety has an erect growth habit and is characterized by a weak expression of fall dormancy, corresponding to 7 on the NAAIC scale. The plant possesses high drought tolerance, which is confirmed by morphological features: smaller leaf size and reduced stomatal density, as well as a slower rate of root and shoot growth during early development stages.

Mamuntanas is an ancient landrace adapted to dryland farming. The variety has low resistance to frequent grazing and exhibits variability when exposed to the pathogen Phoma medicaginis. The crop is used as a forage plant and as valuable source material for creating new synthetic populations.
