The Java fern reaches a height of 15–30 cm and is a slow-growing plant. It is an epiphyte intended for attachment to rocks or driftwood. Planting in the substrate with burial of the rhizome is not recommended, as this leads to its decay.
The plant is characterized by high endurance. The appearance of black spots on the underside of the leaves is a natural process, as they are sporangia — reproductive organs, and not signs of disease.
