The variety is a bulbous perennial plant with upright leafless stems, at the top of which an umbellate inflorescence is formed. The leaves are strap-shaped or linear, appearing after flowering.

The plant is used in ornamental gardening and is often grown in containers. The variety is not winter-hardy and requires cultivation in protected ground or indoors, as well as well-drained soil, sufficient lighting, and adherence to a summer dormant period.
