The Buciansky variety is used as a forage crop. In specialized studies on flavonoid biosynthesis, this variety is noted for an atypical gene expression profile compared to other tested lines.
The plant is best adapted to well-drained soils, preferably calcareous or neutral, and does not tolerate waterlogging and high soil acidity well. Given that sainfoin is a cross-pollinated crop, its characteristics may exhibit heterogeneity depending on growing conditions.
