The plant belongs to the Asparagaceae family and is known by the names "sun star" or "African star flower". The variety has PBR status and is characterized by features common to the entire Ornithogalum dubium species.

The plants form a rosette of strap-shaped leaves and reach a height of 25–50 cm. The star-shaped flowers are gathered in inflorescences, the color of which varies from bright orange to yellow.

The crop is thermophilic and does not tolerate frost, therefore in temperate climates it is grown primarily indoors. With excessive moisture and lack of light, the plants are susceptible to basal collapse.
