The variety belongs to the black rice category, which is due to the high content of anthocyanins in the grain pericarp. The grain has an elongated shape and is classified as long-grain type B. The plant is adapted to the temperate climate conditions of Northern Italy, in particular the Piedmont and Lombardy regions.

The product is characterized by an increased content of iron, silicon, and flavonoids. Due to its structure, the variety retains its firmness during cooking and does not overcook, which determines its use as a dietary product and an ingredient for side dishes, salads, and other haute cuisine dishes.
