Variety description

10 August 2026

The Osteospermum 'Nairobi Purple' variety (synonym 'Tresco Purple') is a compact plant with a tendency for creeping growth, suitable for containers and borders. Its flowers are characterized by a bright dark pink color with four longitudinal purple stripes on the petals, a dark center, and a ring of yellow stamens.

The plant requires regular watering and may stop blooming during intense heat and drought. It is not fully winter hardy, but is capable of overwintering in mild winters if provided with cover and dry soil. In variety trial documents under the name 'Nairobi', a type with upright growth throughout the entire growing season is also distinguished.

The name 'Nairobi' also appears in a list of varieties from the Danish nursery Gartneriet Petersminde that emerged in the mid-1990s, however, detailed agronomic descriptions for this breeding number are not provided in open publications.
