The variety was bred for the industrial production of thebaine, a raw material for the production of pain medications, characterized by a high content of this alkaloid with a low level of other substances. The crop belongs to the species Papaver bracteatum, which is a perennial herbaceous plant with stiff, unbranched stems and large bright red flowers, often having a dark spot at the base of the petals.
In official registers, the variety is registered under code 112718. There is also a derivative version of the variety, «Bohémélet-2», which differs in agrotechnical features requiring manual labor, limiting its use primarily to small farms and gardens.
