The Monaco variety belongs to industrial forms of opium poppy intended for the needs of the pharmaceutical industry. The plant is adapted for cultivation in temperate climate conditions.

A key feature of the variety is a high level of alkaloid content, in particular codeine. During breeding research, narcotine content values in the raw material were recorded up to 0.73%.
