In its natural habitat, the plant forms dense colonies, growing in shaded and cool places near rivers on soils rich in humus. The species was scientifically described in 2004.

The plant is a succulent reaching a height of 10–15 cm, while during the flowering period, the flower stalks can grow up to 30–45 cm. The stem is upright, rounded, green in color, and at the base often takes on a creeping form.
