The variety was developed for commercial use to obtain attractive flower coloration, suitability for rapid growth, and ease of transport. The propagation method is based on tissue culture technology.

The plant has well-developed flower stalks and dense dark green foliage. This variety is a patented breeding achievement; however, the trade name Eternal Flame is also used for other plant species, including Calathea crocata, and certain varieties of roses and Heuchera.
