The Calonega ecotype was formed in the area of the Lamon plateau and the Belluno valley as a result of centuries of adaptation and folk selection. The plant is climbing, and the seeds are characterized by a slightly flattened shape and the presence of red stripes, which is typical for the Borlotti variety.
The produce is valued for its delicate taste and thin skin. Traditionally, the ecotype is used for preparing soups and hot dishes. The harvesting of Lamon beans is usually carried out from the second half of August to the end of September.
In recent years, the ecotype has been susceptible to viral diseases, which reduce the profitability of cultivation. Specific data on high resistance to pathogens, as well as exact indicators of maturity group or plant height, have not been recorded due to the status of Calonega as a local folk ecotype.
