The Dorado variety (also known as PT08004) is the result of crossing the Pinto Mestizo and Pinto Saltillo varieties. It was developed for the conditions of the state of Chihuahua with the goal of improving the commercial quality of the produce.
This bean variety is used in breeding programs, in particular for studying the genetics of resistance to diseases, including charcoal rot caused by the fungus Macrophomina phaseolina.
