The Gradištanac variety is historically a local Serbian landrace that became the basis for the development of modern varieties, such as Panonski gradištanac and Poboljšani gradištanac. The plant is characterized by an indeterminate growth type and forms large white seeds.

In scientific research, the variety is used to study biochemical seed indicators and evaluate susceptibility to pathogens. In particular, susceptibility to bacterial blight is noted, as well as average indicators of protein content and antioxidant activity characteristic of this bean collection.
