Great Northern type bean seeds have a white color and a rounded or slightly flat oval shape. Plants of this type usually belong to bush or semi-climbing forms.

This type has a delicate texture and a mild, slightly nutty flavor. Due to its ability to retain its shape during heat treatment, the bean is widely used in soups, stews, casseroles, and braised dishes.

In global breeding, varieties of this type are valued for their high nutritional value and are often developed with consideration for resistance to a number of diseases, including anthracnose and viral infections such as bean mosaic virus and curly top.
