The variety is listed in official EU vegetable crop catalogs as a common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris). Detailed agronomic characteristics of the variety are absent in open databases, however, in breeding literature from the 1970s–80s, it is described as an indeterminate climbing form.
In a number of sources, the Polaris variety is characterized as a pole bean, similar in its properties to the McCaslan Pole variety. The name is used in a broad agronomic context and appears in various studies of growth traits in climbing plants.
