The Piast variety belongs to the Pisum sativum species for general use. In the mid-1990s, it became known as one of the first varieties with significantly improved lodging resistance, which made it an important benchmark for the development of breeding for this crop.
Currently, the variety is included in official registers, however, detailed modern agrotechnical indicators, such as precise plant height or maturity group, are more often found in open publications as reference data for comparison with new breeding achievements.
