The variety is a hybrid of Populus maximowiczii and Populus trichocarpa. It was bred for use in energy forestry for the purpose of wood production in a short timeframe.
The breeding of the variety focused on ensuring high productivity, rapid growth, and the ability to regenerate after felling. A key selection criterion was tolerance to poplar rust caused by the pathogen Melampsora larici-populina.
