The variety is a compact shrub form with a height from 0.5 to 1 meter. The inflorescences are large, with striking bracts colored in shades from dark pink to bright red. Flowering is abundant and can occur in autumn or spring depending on climatic conditions.
The plant is drought-tolerant after adaptation, moderately tolerates light frosts, but is sensitive to excessive moisture and requires acidic, well-drained soils. It is used as an ornamental plant for containers, small gardens, and patios, as well as a cut flower crop in floristry.
The variety is a subject of scientific research in the fields of breeding and physiology; it was the first among Proteaceae species to have its genome sequenced.
