The Capital cultivar is a tree with a narrow columnar crown shape, reaching a height of 8–12 meters and a width of 1–4 meters at maturity. The plant's fruits are small, about 1 cm in diameter, hard, and practically inedible; therefore, the cultivar is grown exclusively for ornamental purposes.
The plant possesses high resistance to urban conditions, air pollution, drought, and wind. The cultivar is relatively resistant to fire blight and is noted for its increased branch strength. In autumn, the foliage takes on a saturated purple-red or red-orange color.
Due to its compact crown shape, the cultivar is widely used for landscaping narrow streets, creating avenues, and serving as a vertical accent in landscape design. In some regions, the species Pyrus calleryana is classified as invasive due to the ability of its seeds to be actively dispersed by birds.
