The variety was bred by amateur breeder Ewald Scholle. The rose was named "Pope's Rose Benedetto", which is associated with the name of Pope Benedict XVI, who occupied the throne during the variety's release in 2007.

In working on the variety, the breeder set the goal of achieving frost resistance and the absence of thorns. However, the author noted the difficulty of achieving complete thornlessness, as thorns can reappear. Detailed morphological characteristics, such as bush height or flower size, are not described.
