Variety description

The variety belongs to the hybrid tea rose group; in a number of classifications, it is categorized as a grandiflora. The plant forms upright and strong stems. The flowers have a diameter of over 11 cm, contain 25–30 petals that change color from violet-lilac to bluish-purple, and possess an intense aroma of violet and Damask rose.

The plant is remontant, flowering in cycles with solitary blooms or small inflorescences. The shrub is distinguished by good disease resistance, however, under certain conditions, it is susceptible to black spot. Frost resistance is average; the variety withstands temperatures down to -23 °C and tolerates the effects of rain and sun well.

The breeding designation DORient is a registration code; the variety is also encountered under the synonyms Melody Parfumée, Derby, Hagen Gmelin Rose, and Zulu Royal. It is used in landscaping for masses, borders, alleys, and as a cut flower crop.
