The plant is a herbaceous subshrub with annual stems that die off in autumn or winter and require pruning to the ground. The bush is characterized by the presence of thorns and rapid spreading via root suckers, which allows it to be used as a groundcover crop.
The berries have a bright red color, a glossy surface, and reach 3 cm in diameter. The fruit is mildly sweet in taste, practically without acidity, and possesses a distinct aroma.
