The plant with the commercial name «Spider Russ» is characterized by a specific "spreading" arrangement of cladodes, which served as the reason for the name. The cladodes have an elliptical or oval shape, a smooth surface, and a pointed apex with a width of about 3–4 cm.
In a botanical sense, the species is a perennial evergreen shrub with a height of 45–55 cm. It possesses branched green stems and modified shoots that perform the function of leaves. Small flowers form on the surface of the cladodes.
