The variety is a herbaceous perennial plant forming a low, dense mound of deeply dissected grey-green foliage. Plant height is 25–35 cm. The flowers are large, bright violet, have a characteristic "cushion" shape, and are distinguished by the presence of two rows of petals.
The plant blooms from June until the first autumn frosts. The variety has increased resistance to powdery mildew and requires good soil drainage. It is used in landscape design for edging the foreground of borders, rock gardens, gravel gardens, and container gardening, and is also suitable for cut flowers.
