The Aloha hybrid was created for industrial vegetable farming and processing. Breeding programs were aimed at improving the technological qualities of the fruit, including pH level, dry matter content, and ease of peeling. The plant possesses characteristics favorable for mechanized harvesting, such as seed germination at low temperatures and parthenocarpy.
As a tomato rootstock, the hybrid is valued for its high graft take rate and resistance to root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne incognita). The variety also possesses bred-in resistance to a number of pathogens, including Phytophthora infestans and Pseudomonas tomato.
