The variety belongs to the cherry type and has red fruits weighing 20–25 grams. It is a fixed variety (OP) which is not intended for mass agricultural production and is more often classified as a breeding line.
The plant is widely used for scientific purposes as genetic material. In particular, the line is used in studies of water deficit stress tolerance, investigation of pollen fertility, crossing with wild species, and experiments on obtaining haploid plants. Apedice is included in base collections of genetic resources for genetic mapping.
