The tomato variety «Bernadine» (sometimes referred to as a hybrid) was bred by specialists at the Volcani Institute (ARO, Israel). In vegetable crop catalogs, information can also be found regarding the connection of this variety to the company Hazera Genetics.

In scientific publications, this variety, including under the designation «Bernadine 5656», is used as a model specimen in biotechnological experiments related to plant regeneration in in vitro culture and genetic transformation using Agrobacterium. The variety also appears in studies devoted to the examination of tomato juice quality and viscosity.
