The Cherokee variety (NC BC1-32) has a determinate growth type and belongs to the mid-late maturity group. The plant exhibits resistance to Verticillium wilt and two races of Fusarium wilt. The variety is intended for fresh market cultivation.

The group of Cherokee-type varieties, which includes such cultivars as Cherokee Purple, Cherokee Green, and Cherokee Chocolate, belongs to the heirloom category. They are characterized by an indeterminate growth type and diverse fruit coloration.
