The variety is a breeding achievement of the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) and is used primarily as a reference sample for expert evaluations and breeding programs. Its history can be traced back to at least 1982.

The plant possesses genetic resistance to late blight (Phytophthora infestans) due to the presence of the Ph-2 gene, and also exhibits resistance to corky root rot caused by Pyrenochaeta lycopersici. Chemical composition studies show that lines of this variety are distinguished by a high concentration of dry matter, reaching 13.4%.
