The Molteno HY hybrid is an early determinate cherry-type variety. Its fruits are round in shape, weigh 45–50 g and lack green shoulders. The plant is resistant to Fusarium wilt, Verticillium wilt, and tobacco mosaic virus. It is intended for open field and film shelter cultivation, with the harvest collected in clusters or as individual fruits.
The Italian local variety Molteno belongs to the da serbo group, which characterizes it as a tomato for long-term storage. It is an open-pollinated variety that is part of Italy's agronomic heritage and is studied in scientific programs for the conservation of varietal diversity.
