Under the name «Morado» are a number of local tomato varieties, such as Morado de Aretxabaleta or Morado Vejer de la Frontera. Plant height varies from 1–1.2 m in open field to 2.2 m in greenhouses. The plants belong to heirloom varieties with a traditional level of disease resistance.
The fruits have a flat-round shape with ribbing at the stem and a weight from 200 to 500 g. Skin color varies from dark red to chocolate-purple, often with green "shoulders". The flesh is dense and meaty, distinguished by a sweet taste with fruity or spicy notes and versatility in use.
