The Italian ecotype Nasone del Cavallino is an ancient autochthonous variety with large fruits weighing over 200 g and measuring over 10 cm in length. This is an early-maturing tomato with fleshy, sweet flesh, a low seed count, and resistance to blossom end rot, suitable for fresh consumption and processing.
Modern Nasone F1 hybrids are characterized by mid-season maturity and pepper-shaped fruits weighing 150–180 g, sometimes up to 250 g. These hybrids possess complex disease resistance, including tobacco mosaic virus, verticillium wilt, and fusarium wilt, and are used both for the fresh market and for processing.
