The Sontsedar variety was developed by breeders at the Institute of Irrigated Agriculture of the NAAS of Ukraine. It is oriented toward cultivation in the southern regions of the country, where it exhibits resistance to a number of pathogens in combination with good productivity indicators.

The variety is officially included in state registers of plant varieties. One of the key characteristics noted in the context of industrial cultivation is the suitability of fruits for mechanical harvesting using a combine.
