The traditional Sorrento variety, also known as Rosa di Sorrento, is a historical ecotype from the Sorrento Peninsula. The plant is indeterminate, vigorous, reaching a height of more than 2 meters in greenhouses. The variety is mid-season, the fruits have a round ribbed shape, weighing from 250 to 400 g, sometimes up to 800 g. The fruit color is coral-pink, often with a green shade remaining at the peduncle. The pulp is dense and fleshy, with low liquid and seed content, the taste is sweet with low acidity.
Modern hybrids, such as Sorrento F1, are also found on the market under the name Sorrento. They differ from the historical variety in early maturity, red fruit color, round-flattened shape, and lower fruit weight, averaging 180–200 g.
The variety is listed in the national registry — its seeds are authorized for sale in this country.
