The variety is used in agronomic research to study allelopathic potential, specifically the plant's ability to release phenolic compounds and sorgoleone to suppress weed growth.

In the course of experiments, it was found that the PR 845F hybrid possesses a higher content of total phenolic compounds in young seedlings on the fifth day of growth compared to a number of other varieties.
