In scientific literature, the name Stepovyi refers to grain sorghum hybrids, specifically Stepovyi 5 and Stepovyi 8, as well as a hybrid with an FAO 180 maturity characteristic. The name is frequently encountered in Ukrainian breeding studies, though it may refer to various breeding lines.

For the Stepovyi 8 hybrid, grain protein content is recorded at 10.0–10.6%. Agrotechnical recommendations for this hybrid specify an optimal seeding rate of 160 thousand plants per hectare with a row spacing of 45 centimeters.
